Last month, Rose from East Grinstead read The Giver of Stars by bestselling author Jojo Moyes. This 2019 novel, based on a true story, follows five women on a journey to spread the joy of reading. Rose really enjoyed her latest read – check out her review below!

For my March challenge, I read The Giver of Stars and it was a fantastic read! It’s set in America during the Depression and follows the story of Alice – a recently married British girl who has come to Kentucky with her new husband – who is struggling to fit in with the close knit community, who mistrust anything new.

Alice then becomes involved in the Packhorse Library, whose objective is to deliver books to people in remote mountainous areas by donkey, while also fighting the prejudice of the village people and she discovers more about herself and life in the process.

It is well worth a read and Jojo Moyes is brilliant in drawing out the landscape of Kentucky (when she did a talk on this book, she said she’s spent some time in America while writing it) and you can really feel immersed in the scenery, its people and the fight to keep the Packhorse Library open.

I would encourage anyone to read it!
